The American Pain Society defines pain as an unpleasant experience, real or imagined, that may or may not involve tissue damage.
The philosophy of the Elkhart General Hospital Center for Pain Management is to relieve pain when possible. The emphasis is to enable patients to become more functional, so they can perform more of their daily activities unhindered. The patient will be “more in control of their pain, and therefore in control of their life.”
The Center for Pain Management offers a full range of pain management technology in three specific areas: acute (short term), chronic (long term), and cancer pain. The Pain Center offers treatment of many different conditions ranging from headaches related to epidurals, back pain and cancer pain, to severe arthritis, nerve injuries, and unexplained abdominal and pelvic pain.
