Radiologist to Discuss Mammograms at Health Luncheon
March 2, 2010

ELKHART, IN – Elkhart General Hospital is hosting a Health Luncheon on Tuesday, March 16 from 11:30am – 1:00pm in Auditorium B in the West Wing at Elkhart General Hospital. A nutritious lunch will begin at 11:30am, followed by a presentation on “Mammography: A Local Opportunity to Live!” at 12:00pm.

Samir Patel, MD, Diagnostic Radiologist from Radiology Inc., will discuss the recent statement on mammography released by the United States Preventative Services Task Force. He will confirm the benefits of an annual screening for mammography beginning at age 40, as recommended by the American Cancer Society and will review how:

  • Adherence to annual screening mammography improves survival rate
  • Delay in mammography, greater than a one year interval, results in lower survival rates
  • Annual mammography for women aged 40-49 results in improved survival rates
  • Less than 50% of women diagnosed with breast cancer, greater than 40 years old, report having a mammogram the year before their cancer was diagnosed

Each participant will receive a large tote bag. One lucky participant will receive a spring garden starter kit valued at $75. Program fee is $10 and includes lunch. Cash or check is accepted at the door. Registration is required by Friday, March 12. To register, call Elkhart General Community Relations at (574) 523-3303.
