Healthy Food Topic of Discussion at June 2 Diabetes Support Group

ELKHART – The Elkhart General Hospital Diabetes Support Group will present “Food Q & A” on Thursday, June 2 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Auditorium B in the Elkhart General West Wing.

When people are diagnosed with diabetes, the number one concern that creates the most confusion is what to eat. Initially the changes can be overwhelming and people can only concentrate on the basics. Elkhart General Hospital Registered Dietitian and Diabetes Educator, Cheryl Brandt, MS, RD, CD, CDE, will discuss how to make your favorite recipes low in sugar and heart-healthy. Participants will also learn the method for calculating the carbohydrate content of various foods. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite recipe.

The Elkhart General Hospital Diabetes Support Group gives adults with diabetes and their families and friends continuing peer support. Monthly meetings feature a variety of topics related to diabetes presented by experts in the healthcare field. The Diabetes Support Group meets the first Thursday of every month in the Elkhart General Hospital Auditorium B, and the second Friday of the month in the Elkhart General Hospital Prenatal Classroom.
