Elkhart Meals on Wheels Looking for Volunteers
July 1, 2010

ELKHART, IN – The Elkhart Meals on Wheels program is looking for caring volunteers to provide help in the office, kitchen and as route drivers.

The Elkhart Meals on Wheels program home-delivers two meals a day, five days a week (excluding holidays) to seniors in the City of Elkhart who are unable to ensure adequate nutrition for themselves. Some utilize the service while recovering from illness or surgery; others need meals indefinitely to help them remain independent in their homes. It takes over 60 volunteers each week to run the program.

For more information, please call the Elkhart Meals on Wheels at (574) 523-3399.

About Meals on Wheels
In 1967, a group of women from the Elkhart County Medical Auxiliary, YWCA, Association of University Women, Tri Kappa Sorority and Psi Ota Sorority formed the Elkhart Meals on Wheels program to help provide well-balanced meals to persons who were unable to cook for themselves. Elkhart Meals on Wheels is a non-profit community service operated by volunteers and funded by charitable donations.
