Elkhart General to Hold Free Peripheral Arterial Disease Screenings
February 1, 2010

ELKHART, IN – Elkhart General will hold FREE Peripheral Arterial Disease Screenings on Saturday, February 6 from 10:00am – 4:00pm. Screenings will be held in the Elkhart General Healthy Lifestyle Corner on the 2nd floor of the American Countryside Farmers Market in Elkhart

Peripheral Arterial Disease (P.A.D.) affects millions of Americans. However, because most people do not experience noticeable symptoms, the disease often goes unrecognized. P.A.D. develops when the arteries become clogged with fatty deposits that limit blood flow to the legs. Just like clogged arteries in the heart, clogged arteries in the legs put you at risk for heart attack or stroke. To help determine if you have P.A.D., an Ankle Brachial Index (ABI), is performed. This simple, painless 10-minute test measures the blood pressure in your ankle compared to the pressure in your arm to determine how well your blood is flowing.

The screenings are by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call (574) 523-3303.
