Elkhart General Offers Free Carotid Artery Screenings at the Farmers Market
February 1, 2010

ELKHART, IN – Elkhart General is offering FREE Carotid Artery Narrowing Screenings in the Elkhart General Healthy Lifestyles Corner on the 2nd floor of the American Countryside Farmers Market on Saturday, February 13 and Saturday, February 20 from 10:00am – 4:00pm.

A stroke results from the disruption of adequate blood flow to the brain. The most common source of disruption is a significant narrowing or blockage of the carotid arteries caused by excessive accumulation of fatty plaque buildup along the artery walls. Risk factors include: smoking, family history of Peripheral Arterial Disease, age, diabetes, high cholesterol and/or high blood pressure.

The Carotid Ultrasound is a simple, painless 10-minute test. The screenings are by appointment only. To register, please call (574) 523-3303.
