Elkhart General Hospital Foundation Donates Sim Baby to Elkhart General Hospital Neonatal Unit
January 10, 2012

ELKHART, IN – The Elkhart General Hospital Foundation recently donated a computerized infant simulator, (sim baby) to the Elkhart General Hospital Neonatal Unit.

The Sim Baby serves as a training tool for staff members who may be called to resuscitate a newborn.  The Hospital requires every nurse on the delivery team be certified on the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), an American Academy of Pediatrics and American Heart Association recommendation. Nurses must be able to accurately assess the baby’s condition and perform the needed resuscitative measures which may include intubation, IV placement and the delivery of medication.

“We can’t thank the Foundation enough,” said Michaela Nufer, MSN, Manager, Pediatrics, NICU and NNP Program. “Most deliveries come off without a problem, but when things go wrong it can happen in an instant. That’s why it’s so important we make training scenarios as realistic as possible, and the baby simulator will make that happen.”
