Elkhart General Hospital Blood Donor Center to Be Operated by the South Bend Medical Foundation

ELKHART, IN - In an agreement signed between Elkhart General Hospital (EGH) and the South Bend Medical Foundation (SBMF), the Blood Donor Center at EGH will be operated by SBMF no later than February 22, 2010.

According to Gregory S. Losasso, Vice President of Operations at EGH, “This change comes at a time when the management of donor centers and blood banks has become increasingly complex. Our focus at the Hospital needs to continue to be on providing the highest quality healthcare for the community and this agreement with the South Bend Medical Foundation assists us in meeting this goal.”

For several decades, SBMF has been providing exceptional laboratory services and blood donor testing for EGH. This new agreement is an extension of services provided and the transition will not interrupt day to day patient care.

"EGH has provided invaluable blood donor services to the community for many decades." states Bob Tomec, MD, President of SBMF. “Because of the increasing challenges associated with donor collection, our new arrangement will allow us to coordinate all the blood donor efforts in the greater Elkhart County in an efficient manner.
