Elkhart General Continuing Medical Education Program Wins Reaccreditation with Commendation

ELKHART, IN - The Elkhart General Hospital Continuing Medical Education Program has been awarded a six-year reaccreditation with commendation by the Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA).

Six-year recognition with commendation is the highest distinction bestowed to a healthcare provider by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education of ISMA.

N. Stacy Lankford, M.D., serves as Director of Medical Education for EGH with support from Coordinator Ranae Obregon and with guidance from the Hospital’s Education and Program Committee.

The four major purposes of accreditation are to establish criteria for evaluation of their programs and activities; to ensure that organizations meet and maintain standards; to promote organizational self-assessment and improvement; and to recognize excellence.

Medical Education programs sponsored by the Hospital during 2007 that provided CME credits to physicians included: “The Emergence of Endoscopic Ultrasound in Elkhart” by Mamoon Raza, MD, FRCP; “The Happiest Baby on the Block”, by Harvey Karp, MD; “Plastic Surgery: Fact versus Fiction”, by Ronald Downs of The Centre PC, MD; and “HPV Vaccine: American Cancer Society’s Recommendations on Use to Prevent Cervical Cancer” presented by Michael Rodriquez, MD, Gynecologic Oncologist.
