Cancer Survivor Dave Dravecky to Speak at Ribbon of Hope Benefit
February 5, 2009

ELKHART, IN — Former Major League pitcher and cancer survivor Dave Dravecky will speak at the 9th annual Ribbon of Hope benefit on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 7:00pm at Elkhart Memorial High School. As an added attraction this year, “Truth in Jazz” will perform at 6:30pm.

In his seventh year in Major League Baseball while playing for the San Francisco
Giants, Dravecky was diagnosed with cancer in his pitching arm. The next few years were a whirlwind of surgery, radiation, pain and depression, all in the glaring light of
the media. Eventually, his arm was amputated to stop the spread of cancer and save
his life.

“Dave’s story is truly an inspiration to everyone whose life has been touched by cancer,” said Loretta Salchert, Executive Director of ROH. Salchert said that a special opportunity to meet Dravecky in person can be arranged for event sponsors. Some sponsorships are still available.

Ribbon of Hope is a non-denominational, non-profit cancer support ministry that has been addressing the emotional and spiritual needs of cancer patients and their families throughout the community since 1999. Its offices are located adjacent to Elkhart General Hospital’s Inpatient Oncology Care Unit.

Tickets for Group Seating (20 or more) are $15 each. Reserved Seating is $20. General Seating is $5. General seating is on a first come, first served basis. Tickets go on sale February 13. Call Ribbon of Hope at (574) 389-7379 or toll free at (877) 513-1245 for ticket information and availability. Visit www.ribbonofhope.org for additional information.
