Driving Simulator

The driving simulator is part of a comprehensive screen provided by Occupational Therapy. Its purpose is to assess physical and thinking skills used when driving.

The simulator consists of a simulated car with steering wheel, pedals, computer, and screen. The screen presents simulated dashboard, computer graphic roads, buildings, traffic signs and various road hazards. The computer provides a variety of scenarios with challenges from low to high difficulty.

With the simulator, individuals are allowed a safe way to develop readiness for on road driving after changes due to but not limited to:

  • Stroke
  • Head injury
  • Early onset of dementia/Alzheimers
  • Age related changes

At the completion of the screening, recommendations are provided to the individual and their physician. The ultimate decision for return to driving will be determined by the individual and their physician.
