Pediatric Services

At Elkhart General, we want to help your children grow to live active, healthy lives. So we team up with parents and caregivers, taking a comprehensive approach to pediatric care. Not only do we focus on prevention and treatment of illnesses and injuries, but we also emphasize education, training and support for parents and other caregivers.

An environment that is centered on the family

Our goal is to create a caring, compassionate environment where families with sick or injured children can turn for help. Whether it is a scheduled visit or an unexpected trip to the Emergency Department, we center our care on your child, combining the latest medical breakthroughs with thoughtful advances in pediatric health care.

We have designed our Pediatric Unit to help your child feel as safe and comfortable as possible. The Unit is designed with children in mind, from murals and bright colors running throughout the Unit and a playroom which is available 24 hours a day for children and families.

Pediatric Unit Visiting Hours

Because we understand that visits from family and friends are therapeutic and an important part of the child’s recovery process, parents or legal guardians may stay 24 hours a day. Open visitation is from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily. After 8 p.m., it is recommended that one parent may spend the night in the room with the child.

Emergency Care for Children

Our Emergency Department is open around the clock to provide immediate, high-quality care to your children.

Our ED is staffed by board-certified emergency medicine physicians and nurses experienced in providing pediatric care. These are professionals who have received advanced training in all types of emergencies involving young people.

Supporting them is a whole team of on-call specialists, as well as radiology, laboratory and anesthesiology services. To learn more about our Emergency Services, click here.

Note to parents: Please take time to complete a “Consent for Medical Treatment of a Minor Child” form for each child in your household. This form allows our physicians to administer medical care promptly to your child if you cannot be reached. For a copy of this form, please see the PDF Library to the right or call Community Relations at (574) 523-3303.
