Labor Delivery Recovery Postpartum (LDRP) Suites

Located in the beautiful West Wing, 36 LDRP suites blend the warmth and comfort of a home-like setting with the safety and convenience of a full-service hospital. Each suite provides the type of amenities you’d expect from a five-star hotel – from DVD players and a hideaway bed for dads to in-room refrigerators and whirlpool tubs. All the technology and equipment the physician and nurses need is in the suite, it’s just neatly tucked away and out of sight when not in use.

We also realize that moms occasionally need times to themselves to rest and recuperate. At those times, infants are well cared for in the nearby nursery. Cesarean-section rooms are also located on the same floor, with easy access to the LDRP suites, keeping disruption of the childbirth experience to an absolute minimum.

Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Situated within the Special Beginnings Maternity Center, our NICU gives your baby the latest in critical care should the need arise. A neonatalogist is on call and certified neonatal nurses are in-house twenty four hours a day. The NICU has parent’s rooms so that if the baby must remain after the mother is discharged, you can return to spend the night close by.

Hugs and Kisses

In addition to being a secured unit where nurses carefully control access, Special Beginnings is equipped with the “Hugs & Kisses” infant protection system. This system allows staff and family to move freely within the protected zone, but no one can remove an infant from the unit without the staff being alerted. A detection field is created around key exits. When an unauthorized attempt to use an exit with an infant occurs, alarms sound and doors and elevators are automatically locked.

Another component of this system automatically confirms that the right baby is with the right mother. This feature provides an audible indicator that immediately confirms the match of infant and mother every time the two are brought together.

Visitation Opportunities

We understand that family support is critical for expectant and new mothers, and have set visitation guidelines that encourage it. Special visitation allowances are made for one or two special people you select for the labor and delivery process.

Lactation Services

They make it look so easy...but for many, it isn't. Breastfeeding is one of the most natural things in the world, but it can also be one of the most difficult...especially for first-time moms.

Our Certified Lactation Consultants understand these difficulties. They can help you get off to a good start. And if problems come up, they have the training and experience needed to help you and your baby work through them. And they're even available for private one-on-one sessions. We also have "The Motherhood Connection" group where moms can share breastfeeding experiences and ideas.

For more information, call (574) 523-3276.

Extras for Mother

Before you and your baby leave Special Beginnings, the new mom is pampered with a complimentary massage. The ten minute massage is provided by a certified Massage Therapist in the privacy of your LDRP suite. Massage helps to increase circulation to sore and tired muscles, decrease stress hormones, and promote a sense of well-being. Please ask your nurse for more information.

The new mom and a guest of her choice are also invited to enjoy a “Special Celebration Meal.” You can choose from two succulent entrees (Surf & Turf or Friend Shrimp Platter), side items, beverages, and desserts. Your meal will be served to you in the privacy of your LDRP suite. This is just another little way we want to say “Congratulations!” Please ask your nurse for more information.

Complementary Gifts

When you and your baby leave our care, you won’t go home empty-handed. You’ll receive an assortment of gift packs, mother and baby skin care products, a diaper bag, a souvenir birth certificate, and educational materials on topics like breastfeeding, nutrition, and baby care.
