Certified Diabetes Educators lead weekly programs that provide an in-depth look at Diabetes and how to manage it.

Participants learn about

  • Basics of diabetes pathophysiology
  • Achieving control through exercise, food planning, and medications
  • How to monitor the effectiveness of your management plan
  • Preventing and recognizing emergency situations
  • Managing diabetes during minor illness and when to call your doctor
  • Decreasing the risk of developing complications such as kidney disease, eye disease, nerve damage, cardiovascular disease
  • Nutrition and food planning
  • How to include your favorite foods, fast food, convenience foods, and restaurant dining in you plan of control
  • Skin and foot care
  • Adjustment to diagnosis and stress management
  • Living with diabetes at home, school, work, and community
