Elkhart General Healthcare System Awards

Since its beginning, Elkhart General Healthcare System has achieved levels of success usually reserved for much larger and more well-known hospitals. Not surprisingly, while we go about improving the lives of our patients and their families it hasn’t gone unnoticed or unrewarded.

Distinguished Hospital Award for Patient Safety

For the third year in a row, EGH has been recognized as a Distinguished Hospital for Patient Safety by HealthGrades, the nation’s leading independent provider of health care quality evaluations.

Cardiac Services Award

For the third consecutive year, HealthGrades ranked Elkhart General Healthcare System among the top hospitals in Indiana for overall cardiac services, including cardiac surgery. And, in the Elkhart/South Bend area, the hospital has been rated number one for Cardiac care. The study’s evaluation of cardiac care included cardiac surgery, cardiology, and the medical treatment of heart disease such as congestive heart failure. The hospital received five-star ratings for coronary bypass surgery, treatment of heart failure, and treatment of sepsis (infection of the blood.)

Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence

Elkhart General Healthcare System scored among the top 3.4% of the nation’s hospitals in 2004 for seven major clinical specialties including cardiac surgery, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, neurosciences, gastroenterology, and pulmonary and vascular surgery. (HealthGrades.)

Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award

Elkhart General Healthcare System’s Regional Center for Cancer Services was one of only 34 cancer programs in the country to earn the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award. The commission selected only 7% of the total programs surveyed for this award.
