Information on Your Special Diet
When you place your Room Service order, the Room Service Assistant will help you make choices that fit your special diet.
The Regular Diet is designed to provide a healthy, well balanced diet to maintain good health. The Food Guide Pyramid can be used as a guide. There are no restrictions.
Clear Liquid Diet
The Clear Liquid Diet consists of liquids or foods that are liquid at room temperature, that are clear and leave a minimal amount of residue in the stomach and intestines. Your doctor may order this right after surgery or in preparation for tests. These liquids include juice, broth and jello.
Full Liquid Diet
The Full Liquid Diet consists of any fluid or food blenderized to a liquid form. This diet is usually the next step after a Clear Liquid Diet is tolerated. Food on this diet include milk, juice, smooth cream soups, ice cream, sherbet and pudding.
Mechanical Soft Diet
The Mechanical Soft Diet is ordered for people who have difficulty chewing. Meats are ground if neccessary and hard foods should be limited.
The Bland Diet avoids foods that are known to cause stomach irritation in people, such as black pepper, chili powder, caffeine, coffee and tea.
Low Fat/Low Cholesterol Diet
Fat and cholesterol are limited on the Low Fat/Low Cholesterol Diet. Meat should be limited to five ounces per day and added fats such as butter, margarine, salad dressings, etc. are limited to five servings per day.
Low Fiber and Low Residue Diets
The Low Fiber and Low Residue Diets are designed to offer regular foods that are easily digested and leave a minimal amount of residue in the stomach and intestines. Fresh fruits and vegetables are avoided on this diet.
Low Sodium Diet
Food containing high amounts of sodium are limited on the Low Sodium Diet. These foods include ham, salted snacks, bacon, sausage, cheese and several others.
These diets are designed to promote good blood glucose control for people with Diabetes Mellitus. Each diabetic diet level specifies the amount of carbohydrates allowed with each meal. Carbohydrates are found in breads, grains, fruit, starchy vegetables, milk and sugary foods.
Low Potassium Diet
The Low Potassium Diet limits foods that are high in potassium such as potatoes, bananas, oranges, tomatoes, milk, chocolate and several others.
