Elkhart General Hospital Foundation Donates Gas Cards to Meals on Wheels Volunteers
Elkhart, Ind. – Beginning June 1, 2013 the Elkhart General Hospital Foundation will donate gas cards to all Elkhart General Hospital Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers in an effort to off-set the expense of transporting meals to the homebound.
“It was brought to the Foundation’s attention that Meals on Wheels volunteers were having difficulty continuing this service due to the rising gas prices,” said Jon Housand, Elkhart General Hospital Foundation Director. “The board approved the gas cards to help current volunteers and recruit new ones. We approached Yoder Oil about the cards and they stepped up to the plate, offering a discount for each gas card purchased, which will allow the Foundation to help a greater number of volunteers.”
Gas card valuation is determined by the number of deliveries each Meals on Wheels volunteer makes in a three month period times $4.00. The Elkhart General Foundation has approved this program for one year. The Foundation board must approve continuation of the program beyond May 2014 if it proves successful.
